Downgrading openSUSE from 11.4 (factory) to 11.3

After a while of playing with the factory version .. I decided that I need stability now, so downgrading to the latest openSUSE stable version (which is still 11.3) was my choice, I made a tar backup

$ tar -cvpzf /some/kind/of/path/backup.tgz --exclude=/proc --exclude=/lost+found --exclude=/mnt --exclude=/sys --exclude=/media --exclude=/windows --exclude=/store --exclude=/Recycled / > /some/kind/of/path/backup.log 2>&1

Then, I used zypper to downgrade all packages.

$ zypper dup --from openSUSE_11.3 --from Packman_11.3

The downgrade process was much easier than I thought, I was using my system during the process, off course there was a lot of errors when I try to use some programs while zypper is still working on it, but when it's completed .. things went smoothly and even after restarting, the system started with no major problems, there were only two errors till now : the first resulted from the mysql socket change ..

So whenever your mysql socket changes, you have to change it in /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini in both [MySQL] and [MySQLi] sections (this means "mysqli.default_socket" and "mysql.default_socket"), then restart apache .. Or your php scripts (in my case was phpMyAdmin and Drupal) won't be able to connect to it.

And the second error is about the Nvidia driver, I expected the Nvidia driver to work with this older kernel, but this didn't happen, maybe because I updated the kernel from the 11.3 update repository !!

Anyway, I don't have time to track it right now, but It seems I will need to revert back to the kernel in the 11.3 oss repository for the Nvidia driver to work.
